The Kimberley Aquaculture Development Zone is in Cone Bay, at the northern end of King Sound, about kilometres north-east of Broome. This zone was declared by the Minister for Fisheries on 22 August and is the first aquaculture development zone to be established in Western Australia.
The proposal to establish a Kimberley Aquaculture Development Zone (Zone) has been referred to the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) by the Western Australian Department of Fisheries (DoF) for strategic environmental impact assessment under Part IV, Division 1 of the WA Environmental Protection Act.
